ALCOHOL DETOX PROGRAM

New Beginnings Recovery Center (NBRC) offers a safe alcohol detoxification program on an outpatient basis. Withdrawal from alcohol can be a very frightening experience for a heavy drinker. During this process, alcohol withdrawal symptoms are monitored and treated by our staff.

Alcohol withdrawal symptoms may occur from suddenly stopping the use of alcohol after chronic or prolonged ingestion.  This can be very dangerous and could possible lead to a seizure or worse.  Not everyone who stops drinking experiences withdrawal symptoms, but most people who have been drinking for a long period of time, or drinking frequently, or drink heavily when they do drink, will experience some form of withdrawal symptoms if they stop drinking suddenly.  In many cases, stopping suddenly or going "cold turkey" may result in serious health risks including the possibility of seizures and coma.

Previously, alcohol detoxification was almost always performed in a hospital setting.  But now, NBRC can safely and comfortably detox patients without a confining and costly hospital stay.  The alcohol detox program is safely managed through a brief series of office visits.

We address 3 primary areas of concern when withdrawing from alcohol:

MANAGEMENT OF WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS

Alcohol withdrawal is managed with the use of various cutting edge latest medications that are available for addiction medicine.  Patients are kept comfortable throughout the entire detox cycle.

CRAVINGS

The cravings for alcohol can be extremely intense during the withdrawal process.  NBRC utilizes a host of the latest anti-craving medications.  Certain combinations of medications can provide a powerful blockade of the craving cycle.  In some cases the use of Antibuse (gets you very sick if you drink) may be appropriate as a deterrent to stop drinking.

RESTORATION

Restoration is accomplished by a powerful combination of vitamin B-12, B-Complex, Folic Acid and other various amino acids.  Some medications are oral, some are by injection.  Males can take advantage of the optional Testosterone Hormone Enhancement Therapy for a more rapid restoration.  Coaching and counseling is provided every step of the way.   In fact the chronic use of alcohol can produce a vitamin B1 deficiency that can be very dangerous.  See this article Alcohol and Vitamin B-1 and Memory Loss - Authored by By Olasimbo Olanusi, MD, FASAM

How our program works:

Intake Interview and Psychosocial Assessment

A preliminary assessment is conducted and the patient is evaluated to determine if they are eligible for the Out-Patient Program.  The NBRC Program requirements, the various treatment options, and the fee structure are all discussed.  A confidential interview and intake and orientation is conducted.  We welcome the family to be a part of this process and we take whatever time is necessary address every concern of the patient and family.  NBRC may request a family member or "significant other" be a part of the alcohol detox process when sedatives are prescribed.  This person is important in providing support, administering medications and aiding in supervising the patient at home.

Patients are given a detailed explanation the entire alcohol detox process, what to expect, and every attempt is made to establish confidence in the process an the staff.

Pre-Procedure Medical Evaluation

The detoxification process begins with all NBRC patients receiving a complete medical history and physical examination. This may include a laboratory analysis and alcohol level testing and / or urine toxicology screen. Our clinicians remain a part of the multi-disciplinary team that cares for the patient throughout detoxification

Induction Phase - Beginning the Process of Detoxification

The Induction Phase is the medically monitored startup of detox.  Patients are given medications immediately when appropriate to stabilize any withdrawal symptoms and initiate the detox process.   Medications may be prescribed at this time for the patient to take between the office visits to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings, assist with sleep and reduce anxiety.

Stabilization Phase – Controlling the Cravings

The Stabilization Phase has begun when the patient no longer has cravings for alcohol and withdrawal symptoms have diminished.

Taper Phase – Getting Free

The Taper Phase is reached when the patient is doing well on prescribed medications and cravings have been minimized.  The patient is then stepped-down from the medications until they are alcohol-free.

Outpatient Counseling Therapy

All patients have the option to attend Intensive Out-Patient Therapy (IOP) counseling program or get individual counseling during and after treatment.  Our therapy program run by a team of experienced professionals.  We offer several group therapy options that will fit any schedule.

Psychiatric Evaluation Included

NBRC offers a variety of Psychiatric Services from Evaluation and Follow Up Treatment. Psychiatric Services are utilized to treat patients with Dual Diagnosis Disorder, or Co-Occurring Disorder. Frequently mental health disorders can lie underneath and in some cases fuel substance dependency. Some of the therapies utilized include Psychotherapy, Bio-Feedback Therapy, Hypnosis Therapy and Medication Management

All patients enrolled in our programs, have the option for a no cost Psychiatric Evaluation performed by a Board Certified Psychiatric staff member in addition to the basic services of each program.  Ongoing Psychiatric Services are also an option for our patients.

So now those that have struggled with depression, anxiety or any other co-occurring disorder, have the opportunity to get the substance dependency and the underlying psychiatric issues treated concurrently.
