COCAINE / CRACK COCAINE DETOX PROGRAM

The New Beginnings Detox

COCAINE and CRACK COCAINE DETOX

Affordable Detox Services offers a safe cocaine and crack cocaine detoxification program on an Out-Patient basis.  Although cocaine does not produce a physical addiction, users may find it emotionally difficult to stop using without a medically supervised detoxification program.

Common symptoms involve depression, insomnia, anxiety, fatigue, irritability, and restlessness.  Powerful and effective medications are now available to reduce cravings from cocaine and crack cocaine.  Withdrawal symptoms are monitored by our staff.

In the past few years medications have been developed that target neurochemistry and work with neurotransmitters in your brain.  The result is that we now have miraculous medications that really can reduce cravings with little side effects.  These medications can also curb usage especially in chronic users.

Until recent years, cocaine addiction patients have few

medication optionsOur effective detox protocol utilizes the

best and latest powerful and effective medications.

What type of medications do we use?

  • Antidepressants that reduce withdrawal symptoms and control the intense depression associated with cocaine cessation
  • Beta blockers are useful for reducing symptoms and inhibit effects of adrenaline
  • Medications that reduce GABA in the brain

  • Amino acids that reduce cravings and repair damage

  • Medications that increase glutamate

A little education..

Definition of Cocaine Use Disorder

Cocaine use disorder is when the use of cocaine harms a person’s health or social functioning, or when a person becomes dependent on cocaine. The powdered form of cocaine can be snorted or dissolved in water and injected. “Crack,” which is cocaine in a rock crystal form, can be heated and its vapors smoked. Cocaine use disorder is treatable, but it takes perseverance and determination.

Causes

Cocaine stimulates the brain to release large amounts of the hormone dopamine, which, when amassed in sufficient quantities, results in the euphoria commonly reported by cocaine abusers. As a person continues to use cocaine, a tolerance is developed, and this means that higher doses and more frequent use are required to maintain the euphoria.

Release of Dopamine in the Brain

neurotransmitter

The dopamine connecting to the receptors causes a euphoric feeling. This occurs naturally, but cocaine causes an exaggerated response that can lead to addiction.

Furthermore, when a cocaine user stops using abruptly, they experience a crash or withdrawal. This results in an extremely strong craving for more cocaine, as well as fatigue (being tired), complete loss of pleasure in life, severe depression, anxiety, irritability, sleepiness, and sometimes paranoia. These symptoms often prompt the user to seek more cocaine to alleviate these symptoms of withdrawal.

Out Patient Drug Detox - Vicoden®, hydrocodone, heroin, oxycodone, Oxycontin®, painkillers, methadone, Xanax®, alcohol, cocaine and benzodiazepines

New Beginnings Detox (NBD) offers a safe cocaine and crack cocaine detoxification program on an Out-Patient basis.

The NBD Cocaine Detox Process

Intake Interview and Bio-psychosocial Assessment

A confidential interview is conducted by one of our clinical staff.  The NBD Program requirements, the various treatment options, and the fee structure are all discussed.  A preliminary assessment is also conducted and the patient is evaluated to determine if they are eligible for the Out-Patient Program.

Pre-Procedure Medical Evaluation

The detoxification process begins with all NBD patients receiving a complete medical history and physical examination. This may include a laboratory analysis and urine toxicology screen. Our clinicians remain a part of the multi-disciplinary team that cares for the patient throughout detoxification

Induction Phase - Beginning the Process of Detoxification

The Induction Phase is the medically monitored startup of detox.  Medications may be prescribed at this time to reduce withdrawal symptoms and cravings, assist with sleep and reduce anxiety.

Stabilization Phase – Controlling the Cravings

The Stabilization Phase has begun when the patient no longer has cravings for cocaine and/or crack cocaine.

Taper Phase – Getting Free

The Taper Phase is reached when the patient is doing well on prescribed medications and cravings have been minimized.  The patient is then stepped-down from the medications until they are drug-free. The entire detox including the taper is typically over 6 weeks.

Out Patient Counseling Therapy

Is Recommended While In Detox

All patients may attend an Out-Patient Counseling Program while in detox run by a team of experienced licensed Certified Addiction Professionals. It is our experience that those enrolled in this program have a much higher likelihood of success.  We offer several group therapy options that will fit any schedule.
