12 Hour - 6 Session Group Therapy Program
The 12 Hour - 6 Session Group Therapy Program provides a compact blend of psychoeducational information, psychodynamic therapy and process groups. The emphasis on relapse prevention, and an introduction to the 12 Steps, identifying relapse triggers and family roles. At NBD we believe that it is important to couple therapy with drug detoxification to achieve a drug free life.
12 HOUR - GROUP INFORMATION
Our groups meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This program includes (1) two hour group per week for 6 weeks.
This 6 Session Group Package is also available to those who do not need detoxification, but want the benefit of being in a healthy group environment. The pricing for the 6 Session Group Package without detoxification is extremely affordable.
24 hour - 12 Session Group Therapy Program
The 24 hour - 12 Session Group Therapy Program component provides a blend of psychoeducational information, psychodynamic therapy, process groups and video programming. A sample of the topics covered would be pharmacology, family systems, defensive mechanisms, relapse prevention, an introduction to the 12 Steps, identifying relapse triggers and family roles. Session 1
Psycho-Educational and Process: addiction is not a moral weakness, a character defect, patients are not bad people, but have a disease / 5 components of Holistic Disease (emotional, spiritual, psychological, physical and biological) / stages of addiction / progressive disease concept
Wrap-up: patients share where they are in recovery / patients report on progress of detoxification
Session 2
Psycho-Educational and Process: role play / denial and effects of drugs and alcohol on body / pharmacology

Session 3
Psycho-Educational and Process: surrender, acceptance, self will vs. Higher Power / the concept of H.A.L.T is taught. (go to meetings, talk to other addicts/alcoholics, read fellowship literature, pray, make gratitude list)

OTHER MATERIAL COVERED IN GROUPS
Addiction is a DISEASE, not a lapse in character or a lapse in morals. Addiction is a holistic disease that affects all 5 human functioning areas. These areas are defines as PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, GENETIC, PSYCHOLOGICAL and PSYCHIATRIC. Other common psychiatric illnesses are discussed.
Symptoms of addictions are defined such as DENIAL, TOLERANCE and WITHDRAWAL. PROGRESSION is defined and discussed. PROGNOSIS is defined and discussed. Stages of addiction are defined as EARLY USING stage where there is a psychological relief from using drugs, the PRODRAMAL stage or the warning stage, the CRUCIAL stage where there is a loss of control, AND the CHRONIC stage where daily usage is apparent. The JELLNICK curve is also studied. This curve illustrates a time line that shows the progression of the disease of addiction.
The definition of DENIAL and it's 12 different forms are reviewed. These forms are INTELLECTUALIZATION, JUSTIFICATION, MINIMIZATION, RATIONALIZATION, WITHDRAWAL/ISOLATION, BLAMING, DIVERSION, BARGAINING, HOSTILITY, REPRESSION, DISSASSOCIATION, GEOGRAPHIC ESCAPES and PASSIVITY. Can you identify with any of these attributes?
Addiction and it's effect on the body is studied. Mood altering substances such as alcohol and other drugs and their affect on the kidneys, the lungs, and the liver are reviewed. The affects of cocaine and opiates on the body are also studied.
The therapeutic aspects of addiction are defined including the fact that ACCEPTANCE is essential for recovery. Spiritual principles are discussed. Setting personal, physical and emotional boundaries are discussed. Feelings including facts about feelings are discussed at length. Self esteem, how to value yourself and lastly, conflict resolution and the fact that there will always be conflicts.
Deals with Family Dynamics of Addiction: Identification of Family Roles (e.g. Hero child, scapegoat, mascot, etc.) Family Communication Styles, Family Power Struggles. Client participants in Gestalt techniques such as role playing, and "empty chair" exercises.
The need for 12 step recovery groups and different types of recovery meetings are outlined. Components of 12 step recovery such as going to meetings, sponsorship and working the 12 steps plus each of the 12 steps are outlined and discussed at length.
